Ten steps to reach your goal of getting a job today:

  • Update your resume and LinkedIn profile: Highlight what you are best at, and the skills that you think the job you are looking for will require.
  • Select five target companies you would like to work for. Research them deeply, talk to people at those companies or others in the same industry. Review the job openings on those company websites. Use your connections to apply.
  • Network: Call, text, or email at least 5 people in leadership positions, that you know, today.
  • Network: Call, text, or email at least 5 people in any position, at companies you are targeting, to have them refer you directly. This is the #1 way to quickly land a job!
  • Call three different recruiting companies and establish relationships with them. Take a recruiter to lunch, give them your two minute elevator speech, and let them know what you are looking for.
  • Apply for five jobs today via friendly referral (best way), a recruiter, or via a website (least effective)
  • Call a trusted colleague and practice your interviewing today. Practice makes perfect! A good majority of people struggle once they get an in person interview.
  • Attend industry group meetings as often as you can, with people that have similar jobs to your target job.
  • Treat your job search as a full-time job. Your results will directly reflect your efforts.
  • Stay positive and remember that “you are better than your job search” (Marc Cenedella & Matthew Rothenberg).
